SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- A 25-year-old woman charged with beating to death a woman outside of an Orange County nightclub has pleaded not guilty to murder.
City News Service says Vanesa Zavala entered the plea Wednesday. She could face 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
Her attorney, Ken Reed, says the death of Annie “Kim” Pham is a tragedy but his client didn't kill her. He says Zavala also was hurt during what he called a “melee.”
Police say Pham, a 23-year-old Westminster resident, was beaten unconscious Saturday during an argument in front of The Crosby nightclub in Santa Ana.
She was removed from life support on Tuesday.
Police are seeking two other women and two men in the attack. A reward totaling $10,000 is being offered for information leading to arrests.
