ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) -- Police in San Diego shot and killed man who led them on a high-speed chase and told police dispatchers he had a female hostage, explosives and a gun.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/1hBFkpB) that the man was a passenger in a Toyota pick-up that was pulled over in a routine traffic stop.
During the stop, the man confronted the officer and got back in the truck.
The female driver sped away, and during the pursuit the suspect called 911 and said he had weapons and identified the woman as his hostage.
The pick-up stopped after officers punctured its tires with spike strips.
An officer fatally shot the man after he threatened the woman.
Police found no explosives or guns in the car.
The woman is cooperating with police.
