Gas prices march toward $4 average

Southern California gas price averages are now within a few pennies of $4 a gallon after five straight weeks of price increases in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.

The state average is $3.891 a gallon for regular as of Thursday, 6.6 cents more than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego is $3.949, which is 5.8 cents above last week, 32 cents higher than last month, and 30 cents lower than last year.

In the Los Angeles-Long Beach area, the average price is $3.963 per gallon, which is 6.7 cents more than last week, 33 cents higher than last month, and 33 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.965, up 6.5 cents from last week, 32 cents higher than a month ago, and 35 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.934, up 5.9 cents from last week, 32.5 cents more than last month, and 32.5 cents less than last year.
