SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The campaign manager for a Republican state lawmaker running for California governor says she has quit, after appearing in a promotional video in which she said working for him was “freaking awesome.”
Jennifer Kerns said in an email statement Wednesday that she has left the gubernatorial campaign of state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly. The development comes just days before the California Republican Party convention.
Kerns had appeared in a lengthy campaign video released in January in which Donnelly praised her. In it, Donnelly stood with Kerns and his wife and said, “They say beside every good man is a great woman. I've got two.”
Kerns said in her statement that a filmmaker who produced videos for the campaign also recently left.
Donnelly did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
