The following "Local Notes" appeared in the April 2, 1929 issue:
The Mexican fishing boat Espiritu seized off Point Loma on Saturday with 500 cases of whiskey aboard, is being held at San Pedro on a charge of smuggling, which owners of the craft deny, claiming they were beyond the 12-mile limit.

Members of civic organizations early this morning started a drive to bring to the polls all the slackers who failed to come to the scratch at the primaries. Reports from various precincts show a much heavier vote today.

The San Diego Floral Association has announced that its 22nd annual spring flower show will be held in Balboa park on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 & 28.

The valuation placed upon city property by County Assessor Moulton for the coming fiscal year will make possible a lower rate than last year and more evenly distribute the burden of taxation.

The second installment of state, county and city taxes will become delinquent after the last Monday of this month – April 29, -- after which an additional penalty of 5 per cent will be added.
