LA MESA, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say sheriff's deputies attempting to take a man into custody in La Mesa shot him in the abdomen after he attacked the deputy's partner with a knife.
UT of San Diego (http://bit.ly/PMENJ2 ) reports the shooting occurred Tuesday morning after the deputies discovered the man had outstanding warrants for burglary and other crimes.
As the deputies attempted to take him into custody they said he pulled a knife and stabbed one of them in the leg. The other then opened fire.
Fifty-five-year-old Allan David Riley of La Mesa was treated at a hospital, then arrested for investigation of the attempted murder of a police officer.
The deputy, whose name was not released, was treated for the stab wound and released.
