OC marathon winner disqualified for getting aid

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- The record-breaking winner of the Orange County Marathon has been disqualified two days after the race for receiving illegal aid.

The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/Rq077J ) reports that Mohamed Fadil of Albuquerque, New Mexico was disqualified Tuesday and his race-record time of 2:22:45 was thrown out.

That makes 27-year-old Stephan Shay of Huntington Beach the new winner of the men's division and recipient of the $2,000 first prize.

The Register reports that marathon officials reviewed video of Sunday's race after a protest was issued, and found that Fadil had received aid in violation of USA Track & Field rules against assistance to athletes. The newspaper and marathon officials didn't specify what kind of aid Fadil received.
