Bid to raze Tahoe ranch buildings on hold

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) -- A request for a demolition permit to raze buildings on a historic South Lake Tahoe ranch property has been tabled by the city planning commission.

Thursday's vote will give the Lake Tahoe Historical Society a chance to meet with the property's owner, the Mosher family, to consider options for the property and to determine if the buildings can be spared.

The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1okhW6a ) buildings on the property include a ranch house and barn that date back to about 1900 and three guesthouses that date back to about 1945.

The Barton Ranch property is one of the south shore's last links to historic cattle ranching operations in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

City officials have expressed interest in using it as a museum or visitor center.
