Police say masked gunman wounds 2 in shooting

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities in Northern California were searching Monday for a masked gunman who shot two people in a car after they attended an R&B concert.

Walnut Creek police said the victims were driving after attending an an all-day concert Sunday in neighboring Concord when a car driven by the gunman who was wearing a black, three-holed mask pulled up and began firing into the passenger's side of the victims' car.

Witnesses say they saw the gunman then exit his light-colored Honda and fire several more shots with his semi-automatic handgun into the victims' white Mercedes, striking a woman who was driving and a man who was riding with her, police said.

The gunman fled the scene and sped toward Concord, police said.

The man shot was hospitalized in critical condition Monday and the woman was treated for her injuries and released Sunday, police said. The victims' names have not been released.

Police said the victims had just left the annual Stone Soul Concert sponsored by KBLX-FM that featured R&B artists including Gladys Knight and The O'Jays.

It's not clear whether the suspect and the victims may have had a confrontation at the concert or in the parking lot before the shooting.
