San Francisco transit workers call in sick

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco transit service is experiencing significant delays and is not running cable car lines after workers called in sick.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said all express buses were running local service and stopping at every stop on Monday morning. The Bay Area Rapid Transit Agency was honoring Muni tickets all day from the Daly City and Balboa Park stations to downtown San Francisco.

KGO-TV reports that Muni operators are not allowed to go on strike. But Muni spokesman Paul Rose says they do have the right to call in sick.

It was not immediately clear how many workers called in sick.

The union representing the operators _ Transport Workers Union Local 250-A _ and Muni have been in contract talks since the start of the year.
