Fortune magazine’s annual list of the 500 most profitable corporations in the United States is out, and San Diego lays claim to two of them: Qualcomm and Sempra Energy.
Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) came in at No. 120 this year, up from 149 in 2013, with a 30 percent increase in revenues year-over-year to $24.8 billion.
Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE) rose from 281 last year to 267 in 2014. The company posted revenues of $10.5 billion, up 9.4 percent year-over-year.
California-based companies accounted for 54 of the top 500 corporations. San Ramon-based Chevron (NYSE: CVX) is the top-ranking company in the state, coming in at No. 3.
