ALHAMBRA, Calif. (AP) -- At least officers didn't have to cite it for speeding when the Alhambra Police Department pulled over a giant tortoise found wandering on a local street.
Police say the hard-shelled reptile was nabbed Saturday afternoon in the Los Angeles suburb.
It took two officers to heft the 150-pounder into a patrol car and take it to the local police station. It was turned over to animal control authorities.
Police are asking that anyone whose big tortoise went missing this weekend contact them.
They say the tortoise has some distinctive markings. They aren't revealing them for the time being, however, to ensure that whoever claims the tortoise is its rightful owner.
