Through training that includes shoulder rolls, jumping jacks and workplace etiquette, San Diego Electrical Training Center's Tim Moylan is changing how San Diego's electricians prepare for life in the field.
Some things at the SDETC in Kearny Mesa are exactly how someone in the industry might expect. There are classrooms, some with desks and others with walls filled with common electrical components. Some of the rooms feature row after row of drywall hung on rough framing where it's evident from the multiple holes that students have been practicing box installations.
But arrive at the center at 7 a.m. any Monday through Friday, and Moylan will demonstrate a different kind of training: shoulder rolls, jumping jacks, various stretches and push-ups. That's how Moylan, SDETC's sound and communication coordinator, brings his students into every new day.
