The president and CEO of the San Diego Foundation is always looking ahead, whether that means taking financial precautions to avoid recession effects or strategizing for population growth. Bob Kelly estimates that 1.5 million to 1.8 million extra people will be calling San Diego home in the next 20-30 years.

"Eighty to 85 percent of the (impending) population growth is kids being born here. And the big issue that people are dealing with here in San Diego is affordability, and 'Can I live here?,' and jobs!" Kelly said. "... I think a big thing that we're working on right now is looking at developing a kind of a vision for the future of San Diego. What do we all want to accomplish together?"
