Robert Borgman acquires banks the way some people collect stamps. Borgman, current president and CEO of First National Bank, will become a board member of Pacific Western First Community Bancorp in November when First Community Bancorp merges First National Bank in San Diego and Pacific Western National Bank under the name Pacific Western Bank tallying his collection of community banks at 18.
Formerly with the First National Bank of Denver, Borgman moved west to become chief credit officer of Orange County-headquartered Western Bancorp in 1997. Two years later Western was merged into U.S. Bank. In 2000, Borgman was enlisted to join John Eggemeyer's First Community Bancorp as chief credit officer.
When he is not planning the purchase of banks, this financier enjoys picking out a country tune or a gospel hymn at La Jolla Presbyterian Church, the thought of billions of dollars far from his mind.
