James Neal Blue and his brother, Linden Stanley Blue, bought La Jolla-based General Atomics, a nuclear-power research company, in August 1986. Neal Blue is the company's chairman, CEO and part owner.
General Atomics' basic research into fission and fusion has grown to operations in many technologies, making GA and its affiliated companies leading resources for high-technology systems development, ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely operated surveillance aircraft, airborne sensors and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
Neal Blue concentrates on General Atomics' aerospace business, which makes the Predator unmanned spy plane, a plane that has come to epitomize American ingenuity in battle.
Headquartered in San Diego, the privately-held company currently employs over 3,000 worldwide, including about 1,900 scientists.
