John Kratzer is president and CEO of San Diego-based real estate investment and development company JMI Realty.
In 1998, under Kratzer's direction, JMI Realty was hired by the city of San Diego and the San Diego Padres to act as master developer of the Ballpark District. Kratzer, alongside Padres' owner John Moores, began the implementation of a $1.4 billion redevelopment project in the Ballpark District. Kratzer has been critical to the company's successful results in redevelopment efforts, providing San Diego with Petco Park and bringing life to the surrounding area.
Kratzer's notable successes include securing Omni Hotels as JMI Realty's branding and development partner and facilitating $104 million in debt financing shortly after the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
The ballpark redevelopment project, still under way, represents one of the most significant steps in the revitalization of downtown San Diego. It also represents the largest urban redevelopment effort in U.S. history.
