As vice president of supply chain management, Steve Stroebel ultimately is responsible for ensuring that every piece of steel, every engine, every pipe and all other materials necessary for building a ship are purchased and delivered to the General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) shipyard on time and at the right price.
But he doesn't do it alone. Stroebel is quick to point out that the process of building a ship is a team effort that requires hard work from every department, including his.
"Everybody is a piece of the puzzle," he said. "But there's a lot of material that goes into these ships."
