Maureen Gray, the president and founder of KBM Building Services, was just 20 years old when she started a company with $1,000, some ads in the Pennysaver, a briefcase, a small rented office space and six housekeepers.
A silver anniversary later, Gray has about 300 employees, and a multi-pronged organization that includes janitorial services, small job contracting and other services.
In 1997, KBM added a full-service floor division, and in 2001, the company opened its tenant improvement and construction division.
One of KBM's mottos is that that there is "no job too small."
Along with the work at the divisions, Gray and KBM team members have participated in Meals on Wheels for more than 15 years, and have contributed time and money to many other local service organizations.
Currently, Gray serves on the board of ElderHelp of San Diego. She is also involved with Renaissance Executive Forum and Building Service Contractors Association International.
