Bill Trumpfheller

He'll never forget his first real public relations project.
Bill Trumpfheller -- who today is president of Nuffer, Smith, Tucker Inc.-- had joined the San Diego-based PR firm as an intern while attending San Diego State University. Dave Nuffer stopped by Trumpfheller's cubicle one day in 1987 and handed him a big assignment: plan the homecoming celebration for America's Cup skipper Dennis Conner.
The event was a huge success, with thousands in attendance and a front-page photograph in the Los Angeles Times of Conner and then-San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor hoisting the trophy. Also in the photo, just steps behind, was a hugely proud Trumpfheller.
