Driver Alliant Insurance Services Inc. has more than 700 employees, about 280 of which are in San Diego County. The company has grown organically but also as a result of mergers and takeovers, with more than 10 buyouts in the last decade, the latest being the merger of Robert F. Driver Co. with Alliant Resources Group Inc. in June 2001.
The merger expanded the business's scope, but CEO and chairman Tom Corbett remained firmly in control.
Driver Alliant has its headquarters in San Diego, with about 20 offices around the country as far east as Washington, D.C. Corbett hopes to add at least three more offices in the near future.
Driver Alliant was ranked 14th nationally by Business Insurance in 2005 based on its nearly $2 billion premium volume. It posted about $200 million in commissions and sales activity last year, up from about $175 million in 2004.
