Thirty-five years in radio broadcasting management isn't your typical nonprofit background, but Paul Palmer has certainly made it work.
As the president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, his substantial career shift in 2002 was facilitated by a former radio client who wisely thought Palmer could use his ingenuity and extensive media contacts to generate company growth at BBBS.
"We started to put together a team and started to increase our fundraising efforts, with the goal of serving a whole lot more children," Palmer said, "and our growth has been pretty dramatic, in that we've gone from a couple hundred or so kids to last year serving 1,606 children."
