Carol Ray has been involved in the construction industry since the 1970s, back when it was uncommon to see women on a job site.
"When I was out running heavy equipment in the field there were probably only a handful of women in the trades, even in the industry," she said. "And the women that are successful are the ones that stay in it and work with everybody."
Ray has since moved up the ladder and is now the president of the American Subcontractors Association San Diego chapter.
