Thella F. Bowens was appointed president/CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority in March 2003. The Authority currently owns and operates San Diego International Airport and plans for the region's future air transportation needs.
Bowens is responsible for management oversight of the Authority, its $113.8 million annual budget and its 265 employees.
She is also a member of a number of boards, including the National Conflict Resolution Center, the San Diego World Trade Center, the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Bowens and the Authority are currently in the spotlight due to the Airport's master plan program that is searching for a solution to the long-term air transportation needs of the San Diego region -- which may require a new airport. The location of a new airport has spurred contentious debate and the decision is likely to have a large impact on the San Diego region.
