Going out on a limb, Konrath and his founding partner, Ray McKewon, left secure corporate executive positions to set up Accredited Home Lenders Inc. in 1990. Accredited is a premier mortgage banker servicing all U.S. markets for non-prime residential mortgage loans. The company originates, finances, securitizes, services and sells nonprime mortgage loans secured by residential real estate.
Since its inception in 1990, Accredited has grown from a small outfit into one of the largest public companies in San Diego County, with a market capitalization of approximately $760 million. Konrath recognized the vast under-tapped opportunity of the sub-prime market and Accredited was one of the first firms to concentrate on this area. Konrath has 27 years of experience in the mortgage lending industry.
In 2004 Accredited donated a $275,000 brush rig to the Fire-Rescue Department, a was inspired by employee volunteers during the wildfires.
