Carlsbad-based Document Sciences Corp. is one of the market leaders in what is termed "personalized enterprise communications." Simply put, its lead product, xPression, allows companies to automate the production of documents like contracts, statements or insurance policies that are unique to each individual. The product saves both time and money.
Document Science customers include companies such as Washington Mutual, Citigroup, General Motors, Principal Financial and Verizon Communications.
CEO Jack McGannon stresses that his software enables each company to be unique.
"Our technology doesn't come out of the box with, 'Here is what the marketing brochure is going to look like.' We enable them to customize it in any variety of ways," he said.
Five years ago the company made a big decision to pause and, in McGannon's words, "rebuild our technology from the ground up." With revenues of just under $30 million, Document Science has roughly 7.5 percent of the world market.
