Charles LiMandri

When the city of San Diego appeared ready to give up on the Mount Soledad lawsuit by tearing down the cross, trial attorney Charles LiMandri contacted Rep. Duncan Hunter about possible federal action. In response, Rep. Hunter sponsored legislation authorizing the federal government to accept the memorial from the city. After the City Council declined that opportunity, LiMandri served on the steering committee for San Diegans for the Mount Soledad National War Memorial, the group behind Proposition A -- the successful ballot measure, mandating a donation. When Prop. A was struck down, LiMandri worked with Rep. Hunter on legislation by which the federal government is taking title to the memorial. He has fought hard to vindicate the desire of most San Diegans to find a constitutional way to keep the cross as the centerpiece of the memorial -- all on his own time.
