It wasn't the easiest time to be the president of the Commercial Realtors Association of San Diego County, and Jay Diskin has some first-hand knowledge.
Diskin, who has 30 years in the industry, is used to shifting gears. About 18 months ago, after many years with his own firm, Diskin elected to return to a larger national brokerage at Sperry Van Ness, bringing 16 of his brokers with him. Now, in the wake of the economic crisis, Portland, Ore.-based Guardian Management LLC, which owns Sperry's Southern California franchise, has told the brokers if they want to have an office, they must pony up the money for the lease.
