Alan Lane was faced with some daunting challenges when he took charge of Silvergate Bank in the midst of the worst recession in history.

Before Lane joined the bank as president and chief executive officer in 2008, Silvergate’s assets had decreased from nearly $500 million to under $300 million in just a few years, and the bank was under scrutiny by regulators.

Under his guidance, the bank has made amazing gains, despite the dismal economy.
