Websense is a leading provider of Internet filtering and security software. The company focuses on helping companies and other organizations block access to certain Web sites, but a growing amount of the business is in security against attacks.
"We're like the Google of security," President and Chief Executive Officer Gene Hodges said. "We go out onto the Web and look at what's happening so we can see applications embedded in Web sites. Some of those are bad, they're spyware that's going to attack your computer."
Websense then develops technology to keep these undesirable sites off computers. Hodges compared it to moving to a new city with bad neighborhoods: the old security policy was to go into bad neighborhoods carrying protection. Security measures developed by Websense keep you -- and your computers -- from going to those areas at all.
