When Edward Kaen decided to venture into the world of hospitality, he wanted to do it right.

At 32, he has already been named Boutique Hotel Owner of the Year at the 2008 HotelWorld Awards competition and created a hotel in San Diego that has gotten buzz from magazines like Conde Nast, GQ and Playboy.

The Keating, named after the historic brick building in the heart of the city's Gaslamp District, has gotten rave reviews in the three years it's been open.
