Richard Pascoe, a West Point graduate who served in the first Gulf War and then went into the pharmaceutical business, joined  Somaxon in the summer of 2008.

That same year, Somaxon applied for FDA approval. Every life science company grumbles about the protracted process of getting a drug approved, but Somaxon barely survived it. The company filed a new drug application in March of 2008, and in December, at the end of the standard 10-month review, the FDA ruled that it needed more time, which is not uncommon.

Somaxon is now in the process of manufacturing Silenor and building a sales staff. Since receiving FDA approval, the company has grown to a staff of more than 100 people.
