Real estate professor Norm Miller doesn’t like to brag. But when pressed to name the thing that makes him a successful teacher and mentor, he points to experience.

“The fact that I’m old,” quipped Miller, 62. “I’ve been able to absorb lots of industry trends. I’ve seen plenty of cycles, innovations and ideas come and go, transformations. … At this stage of my career, I’ve been at it pretty long.”

Miller has been in academia since his mid-20s, and is now a professor at University of San Diego’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate. He has spent much of his career at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as director of its real estate center. He’s also worked in the industry, dabbling in both the public and private sides.
