Proposed Port Master Plan Amendment
A draft Port Master Plan Amendment (PMPA) has been prepared for San Diego Unified Port District (District) lands in the East Harbor Island subarea of Planning District 2, Harbor Island/Lindbergh Field. The PMPA will add public access opportunities to East Harbor Island and allow up to three hotels in two areas of the East Harbor Island subarea, with a combined maximum of not more than 500 rooms. Currently the certified Port Master Plan describes the East Harbor Island subarea as having a high quality hotel of up to 500 rooms. One of the potential hotel locations is the “Sunroad Harbor Island Hotel Project,” which is a 175-room hotel located at 955 Harbor Island Drive.

The PMPA will be considered for approval, with or without modification, by the Board of Port Commissioners following a public hearing to be held beginning at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Board Room of the Port District Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101. Additional hearings, if required, will be announced at that Board meeting.

A companion document, the Revised Final Environmental Impact Report for the Sunroad Harbor Island Hotel Project and East Harbor Island Subarea PMPA, will also be considered by the Board of Port Commissioners for certification on March 4, 2014.

Copies of the draft PMPA are available for public review at the District's Environmental and Land Use Management (ELUM) Dept in the District Administration Bldg, or upon request by interested persons. The public, interested organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to submit testimony, statements and evidence relative to the draft PMPA at the public hearing or in written form prior to the hearing.
