Notice is hereby given that the Poway Unified School District (PUSD) has completed a Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the proposed construction of a new K-8 school facility located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Camino Del Sur and Lone Quail Road in the City of San Diego, San Diego County.

The District proposes to construct a new educational facility. The new facility would be designed to accommodate kindergarten through eighth grade students. The proposed K-8 school would be constructed on approximately 22 acres of land. The school would consist of centrally located classroom villages (40 classrooms), a kindergarten (6 classrooms) with a play area, a pre-school (2 classrooms) with a play area, Special Day classrooms (4), and a student center. The southeastern part of the school would contain an administration building, a multi-purpose room, food services, a fitness center, and locker rooms. Parking would be provided at the southwest corner of the school site. Hard courts and the athletic field area would be located primarily on the northeastern half of the school. The athletic field would be equipped with field lighting. The District may consider entering into a proposed joint use agreement with the City of San Diego (City) for community use of the gymnasium and the athletic field if the need arises.

All structures on the property would be no greater that two-stories, and would collectively occupy 156,624 square feet of the school property. Buildings greater than 60 feet in height are not anticipated. The proposed K-8 school would include a capacity for a total of 1,560 students. Of the 1,560 student capacity, it is anticipated that the K-5 facilities would allow for 1,000 students, the preschool would allow for 60 students, and the 6-8 facilities would allow for 500. In addition, it is anticipated that approximately 70 staff members would be employed at the new school.

The parking areas would be approximately 52,000 square feet in size, and include up to150 total parking stalls, including those designated for ADA purposes. Construction activities would start in November 2012, and terminate in August 2014. The school would open for instruction in September 2014.

On the basis of the Initial Study, PUSD staff has concluded that the project would not have a significant impact on the environment, and has therefore recommended preparation of a MND. The MND is available for a 30-day public review period beginning February 8, 2012 and ending March 8, 2012. Copies of the document are available for review at 13626 Twin Peaks Road, Poway 92064 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Any written comments on the proposed project must be received no later than March 8, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. to the attention of Ms. Rheia Vigay at the address listed below.
