NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF A DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED
MASON/HAGE AREA
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the San Diego Unified School District (District), as lead agency, is circulating for public review a draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the proposed Mason/Hage Area Elementary School Project.
Project Title: Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Proposed Mason/Hage Area Elementary School. (SCH 2002061063).
Project Location: The project site is located on District-owned property at the southwest corner of Parkdale Avenue and Flanders Drive in the Mira Mesa Community, City and County of San Diego, Township 14S, Range 3W of the USGS 7.5? Del Mar Quadrangle, San Bernardino Base & Meridian. The project site is located adjacent to Maddox Park and is generally level due to grading that occurred approximately 20 years ago during residential development of the area. There are currently no structures on the site.
Project Description: The proposed Mason/Hage Area Elementary School would accommodate a planned enrollment of approximately 700-900 students, kindergarten through grade five (K-5). Other facilities would include an administration building, library/media center, indoor and covered outdoor student dining areas, indoor assembly/performing arts building, and on-site parking. The project also includes joint-use physical education hard court, playground, and field areas that would be available to the public after school hours.
Probable Environmental Effects: The draft EIR identified significant environmental impacts to Biological Resources, Cultural Resources, Geology and Soils, Hydrology and Water Quality, and Noise.
Availability: The draft EIR can be reviewed at the following locations: the San Diego Unified School District, Facilities Management, Maintenance & Operations Center Annex, Room 1, 4860 Ruffner Street, San Diego, CA 92111; the Mira Mesa Branch Library, 8405 New Salem Street, San Diego 92126; and the San Diego Public Library, 820 E Street, San Diego 92101. The Draft EIR, minus the Technical Appendices, can be viewed online at the District?s website: http://www.sandi.net/repairs/ceqa/ceqa.html.
Comments: Written comments on the draft EIR must reference the project name and be sent to Kiersten R. Giugno, Senior Project Manager, BRG Consulting, Inc., 304 Ivy Street, San Diego, CA 92101. Comments on this proposed draft EIR must be received no later than August 4, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. A final EIR incorporating public input will be prepared for consideration by the District?s Board of Education at a future public meeting. L-3 Communications RCCS operates a facility located at 10770 Wateridge Circle, San Diego which uses and emits chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. We do not believe that any person is exposed to these chemicals at levels constituting a health or safety risk. We have not made a formal determination that actual exposure levels are below the Proposition 65 "no significant risk" levels for carcinogens or "no observable effect" levels for chemicals known to have reproductive harm. We have not performed a rise analysis to determine the precise amount of exposure that an individual would receive over a 70 year period.
