San Diego Unified Port District
Woodfin Suites Hotel and Port Master Plan Amendment Project
Proposed Port Master Plan Amendment
A draft Port Master Plan Amendment (PMPA) has been prepared for San Diego Unified Port District (Port District) lands in the West Harbor Island subarea of Planning District 2, Harbor Island/Lindbergh Field. The draft Plan amendment will allow for the implementation of the proposed redevelopment project on Port tidelands at 1880 Harbor Island Drive.
Currently, the certified Port Master Plan describes the West Harbor Island subarea with the following language: No changes to this 37.7-acre commercial recreation area are anticipated. The PMPA would remove this statement and include a description of the proposed project, as well as update the appropriate Port Master Plan tables. The proposed project includes redevelopment of the existing site with an up to 140-room hotel and supporting facilities, a new and separate marina services building, shoreline protection, and public promenade. An existing fuel services building would be removed. A timeshare option, if approved, would be included in the PMPA as an allowable use under the Commercial Recreation land use designation.
The amendment will be considered for adoption, with or without modification, by the Board of Port Commissioners following a public hearing to be held at the Port District Administration Building Board Room, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, California. The hearing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006.
Additional hearing dates, if required, will be announced at the public hearing.
A companion document, the Final Environmental Impact Report for the Woodfin Suites Hotel and Port Master Plan Amendment Project, is being prepared and will also be considered by the Board of Port Commissioners for certification on July 11, 2006.
The public, interested organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to submit testimony, statements and evidence relative to the plan amendment at the public hearing or in written form prior to the hearing. Written information should be submitted to the attention of the District Clerk, San Diego Unified Port District, P.O. Box 120488, San Diego, California 92112-0488. Copies of the draft plan amendment are available for public review at the Land Use Planning Department, Port District Administration Building, or upon request by interested persons.
