NOTICE OF PREPARATION of a
DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT and
NOTICE OF PUBLIC SCOPING MEETING
Dole Refrigerated Rack Project (UPD #EIR-2015-12)
Notice is hereby given that the San Diego Unified Port District (District), as lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), has prepared a Notice of Preparation (NOP) of a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Dole Refrigerated Rack Project. The project applicant is the Dole Fresh Fruit Company.
The proposed project involves issuance of a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) for the installation and operation of five new refrigerated racks (or maintenance racks) with an additional 94 outdoor electrical container outlets (as part of the racking system) at Dole's existing leasehold on the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal (TAMT) in San Diego, California. The additional 94 outlets would increase the total number of outlets on site to 763. The racks would be stacked four containers high and between five and six containers wide and would be sited adjacent to the five existing racks at the Dole leasehold. New vessels will be transporting fresh fruit to the Dole facility whether or not the proposed project is approved and implemented; however, the proposed project would provide more storage area on Dole's existing leasehold that would allow for more efficient movements and, in turn, would lead to the potential for more throughput leaving the TAMT more efficiently than the existing storage condition.
The NOP may be viewed on the District's website: www.portofsandiego.org/environment/ceqa-coastal-act-notices.html
. The NOP is also available for public review at the Office of the District Clerk, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101. For questions on the NOP, please contact Larry Hofreiter, Senior Redevelopment Planner, at (619) 686-6257.
The NOP is available for a minimum 30-day public review period that starts on Thursday, July 30, 2015 and ends at 5:00 pm on Monday, August 31, 2015. Comments regarding the scope and content of the environmental information that should be included in the EIR, and other environmental concerns, should be mailed to: San Diego Unified Port District, Environmental & Land Use Management Department, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101, or emailed to email@example.com. A public scoping meeting open house to solicit comments on the scope and content of the EIR for the proposed project will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the SDUPD, Administration Building, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101.
