Diocese sells ex-high school to developer

The 18.08-acre campus of former Marian Catholic High School in the south San Diego community of Nestor -- at the northwest corner of Coronado Avenue and 18th Street -- has been sold for $5.65 million.

The buyer was residential developer MCP Ventures LLC, 8799 Balboa Ave., Suite 270, San Diego 92123. Max A. Stewart is the manager of MCP.

The seller of the property (assessor's parcels 627-301-16 through 19) was The Roman Catholic Bishop of San Diego.

The church took back first and second trust deeds for $2,825,000 and $1.24 million, respectively.

Marian was opened in 1960 as the first co-ed Catholic high school in the diocese, and closed in June 2007, replaced by new Mater Dei Catholic in Chula Vista.
