On The Agenda: Make it your resolution to get out in the community

If your New Year’s resolution is to get out in the community and check out more events, then you are in luck. The local business community has a variety of events lined up this week ranging from workshops to presentations and economic outlooks.

National City hosts a workshop on Monday to give a housing element update. The workshop will allow for public input on the Housing Element Update of the National City General Plan. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the National City Council Chambers on 1243 National City Blvd.

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner's State of the City Address is on Tuesday. The event will run from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Balboa Theatre on 868 Fourth Ave. A reception will follow at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter Hotel.

The National Association of Women in Construction presents Patricia Dzuik, of Swanky Inc., on Tuesday. Dzuik will discuss "Containertecture, Storage Container of the Future?"

Her presentation will explain what "container architecture" is and if it’s the storage container of the future. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel Mission Valley on 901 Camino Del Rio South.

The San Diego Society for Human Resource Management’s Law Day Conference is on Wednesday. This event will feature three general sessions: “California DFEH – Expectations for 2013,” “California Department of Labor – 2013;” and “2013 Employment Law Update.” The sessions will be presented by Bob Levy and Marie Burke Kenny. The conference runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront Park on 1 Park Blvd.

CREW San Diego presents its 2013 Economic Trends Forecast on Thursday. Presenting an update on the global economy will be Joe Quinlan, managing director and chief market strategist at U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, and DeAnne Steele, managing director and West investment executive at U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton La Jolla on 3299 Holiday Court in La Jolla.

The Lawyers Club of San Diego’s monthly luncheon is on Thursday. The speaker will be Sandra Fluke, an advocate for reproductive justice and a featured speaker at the National Democratic Convention. The event runs from noon to 1:15 p.m. at The Bristol Hotel on 1055 First Ave.

The Construction Management Association of America San Diego Chapter presents "Engineering & Capital Projects" updates on Thursday. The city of San Diego’s Engineering and Capital Projects Department will provide updates on capital improvement projects, including consultant and contractor information, understanding why different delivery methods are used, and how to do business with the city. The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mission Valley Marriott on 8757 Hotel Circle S.

The San Diego Armed Services YMCA’s annual dinner, meeting and board installation is on Friday. A reception will feature hosted beer, wine and soda. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Admiral Baker Clubhouse on 2400 Admiral Baker Road, building 3604.

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors hosts its installation dinner on Friday. This is the first full year for the association following the 2012 merger of the El Cajon-based East San Diego County Association of Realtors. Realtor Jeff Campbell will serve as the 2013 president and Richard D’Ascoli will serve as the CEO of the merged group. The installation dinner will be at the Bonita Golf Club on 5540 Sweetwater Road in Bonita.

CyrusOne Inc. - Carrollton, Texas, 16.5 million shares, priced $16 to $18, managed by Morgan Stanley and BofA Merrill Lynch. Proposed Nasdaq symbol CONE. Business: Owner, operator and developer of enterprise-class, carrier-neutral data center properties.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. - Miami, Fla., 23.5 million ordinary shares, priced $16 to $18, managed by UBS and Barclays. Proposed Nasdaq symbol NCLH. Business: Third largest cruise line operator in North America.

SunCoke Energy Partners LP - Lisle, Ill., 13.5 million common units, priced $19 to $21, managed by Barclays, BofA Merrill Lynch, and Citigroup. Proposed NYSE symbol SXCP. Business: Owner and operator of cokemaking facilities and related energy assets to aid in steel production process.

USA Compression Partners LP - Austin, Texas, 10 million common units, priced $19 to $21, managed by Barclays, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Wells Fargo. Proposed NYSE symbol USAC. Business: One of the largest independent providers of natural gas compression services in the U.S., primarily focused on large-horsepower infrastructure applications.
