Union Bank names Sam Assael regional manager for residential lending group

Union Bank announced that Sam Assael has joined its retail consumer lending team as regional manager for the bank’s residential lending group based in San Diego.

He is responsible for the growth of residential lending throughout the greater San Diego area, while managing mortgage consultants who serve branch clients in the region. In a newly created position, he reports to Jered Barger, vice president and area sales manager.

“Sam brings tremendous experience in the mortgage industry to the position, which will be invaluable as we grow our retail mortgage lending organization,” said Barger. “His leadership, expertise, and customer focus will help drive growth in the San Diego area as we strive to further meet the needs of our clients who are looking to purchase a home.”

Assael served as a mortgage consultant with First California Funding before joining Union Bank. Prior to that, Assael was a partner, manager and mortgage consultant at Alliance Direct Home Loans. Previously, he served as a wholesale account executive at JP Morgan Chase.

Assael is a member of the University Club Atop Symphony Towers and serves on its membership committee and University of San Diego sports committee. He also volunteers with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County and serves on The Varsity Club Charity Committee. Assael earned a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis on finance and real estate from the University of San Diego.
