KNSD move to Kearny Mesa likely

KNSD Channel 7/39, which has announced its intentions to move out of its roughly 24,000-square-foot space that includes its ground floor studio, says it is eyeing Kearny Mesa for a new location, though it's not clear whether the station would be going into a new building or existing space.

"We should finalize this in about three months," said Samantha Dorman, KNSD's director of community and press relations.

Dorman, who noted the station has been at its downtown location since the early 2000s, said the move is necessary for multiple reasons.

"From a functionality standpoint it wasn't ideal. We don't have room to grow," Dorman said adding that parking was another major issue in the decision. "Parking will be a big bonus. Parking in downtown San Diego isn't easy and it's not free. We'll have plenty of free parking in our new facility."

The move is expected by October 2016 and could even be earlier if a suitable location is found.
