The Douglas Wilson Cos. has hired Michael Brekka as its senior managing director of real estate development.
Under Brekka’s leadership, DWC’s real estate development platform will pursue principal development opportunities throughout the West Coast and Southwest.
"DWC has a successful track record of delivering landmark urban infill projects,” stated Douglas Wilson, Chairman and CEO of DWC, in a statement. “Mr. Brekka’s extensive design and development background ensures DWC will continue to deliver projects of lasting significance.”
Brekka has more than 25 years' experience in real estate, construction and architecture, and has held leadership roles managing design and development for The Vail Resorts Development Co., Shea Homes, Intracorp Urban Developers, The Corky McMillin Cos., The Oliver McMillan Co. and numerous architectural firms.
As a licensed architect, Brekka has designed and developed projects ranging from mixed-use developments in resort communities to residential infill projects. During his career, Brekka has been directly responsible for the development of more than 2,500 residential units and more than 400,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.
Immediately after joining DWC, Brekka assumed leadership of the firm’s Creative Office and Lifestyle Hotel project in Tempe, Ariz. -- a 280,000-square-foot Class A office building with 20,000 square feet of restaurants and retail, and a 270-key boutique hotel located on the Monti’s Restaurant site at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway.
In addition, Brekka will oversee DWC’s request for proposals (RFP) submission for the development of a mixed-use project on the City-owned Seventh and Market block in downtown San Diego’s East Village.
