In 2003, San Diego-based Jack in the Box (Nasdaq: JACK) paid $45 million in cash for Denver-based Qdoba, an eight-year-old chain of 85 restaurants in 16 states.
Five years later, there were a reported 400 Qdoba Mexican Grills across the country, with the closest to San Diego being in Moreno Valley in Riverside County.
Retail: Coco's Restaurant has renewed its lease on 6,061 square feet of retail space at RB Plaza, 16759 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, 92128, from Rancho Bernardo Plaza LLC. The renewal was for 48 months at $330,600.
The lessee represented itself. The lessor was represented by Darlene Pradarelli, of Capital Growth Properties.

Office: Meritage Pharma leased 2,770 square feet of office space for three years at 12555 High Bluff Drive, Suite 385, from Scientific Investments for $234,009.

In late 2011, ViroPharma Inc. (Nasdaq: VPHM) has entered into an exclusive option to acquire Meritage Pharma Inc., a private company based in San Diego focused on developing a treatment for a chronic inflammatory disorder of the esophagus.
ViroPharma has paid an initial $7.5 million, and agreed to provide Meritage up to an additional $12.5 million for the development and exclusive right to purchase the company at predefined terms upon the completion of a series of clinical and regulatory deliverables.
