Shea Homes San Diego has co-earned the California Governor's Golden State Quality Award from the California Center For Quality Education and Development. The award was shared with Australia-New Zealand Direct Line, a company that provides containerized ocean-transport services, and recognizes three levels of professional development: commitment, achievement and overall excellence.
Three other companies have won the Overall Excellence award, and they went on to win the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award established in 1993.
Mark Brock, Shea Homes president, attributed his firm's winning the award to a commitment to build zero-defect homes. The local office also has managed to improve its market share from eighth in 1991 to third in 1997.
Pacific Bay Homes LLC reports that with $7.2 million in advance funding, construction is under way on a new elementary school within the Rolling Hills Ranch development in Chula Vista.
The funding will enable the school to be completed by the fall of this year, nearly two years ahead of schedule.
Douglas E. Barnhart Inc. is the general contractor. The designer is David Ruhnau of Ruhnau Ruhnau Associates. The design, modified from that used for six other schools in the district, has 25 classrooms arranged in groups of five "pods." Each pod has a different animal theme. Other features include a multipurpose room with a stage area, a covered patio eating area, a hardscape playground and a field area.
Pacific Bay also advanced $5.3 million to Chula Vista for a neighborhood park in Rolling Hills Ranch. The master-planned community currently has sales under way on four single-family-home neighborhoods.
Centex Homes is releasing four homes on Saturday as the third phase of its 74-home Brook Hills development in Fallbrook. Prices start in the low $500,000s. Brook Hills homes are in six three- to- seven-bedroom floor plans ranging from 3,000 to more than 6,300 square feet. Prices for six homes in previous phases range from the low $500,000s to the mid-$700,000s.
Shea Homes plans to hold a grand opening Saturday of the three model homes at its 100-home Benicia neighborhood at master-planned Rancho Carrillo in Carlsbad. The four one- and two-story, three- to- five-bedroom floor plans range from 2,203 to 2,700 square feet and are priced from $315,900 to $375,000.
Ryland Homes has sold 27 homes at its 241-home Rancho San Vicente development in Ramona in the three weeks since its grand opening and opened another phase of 10 homes priced from $219,990 to $245,990. The three- and four-bedroom floor plans range from 2,011 to 2,455 square feet.
Brookfield Homes reports all 15 homes released Feb. 6 as the fourth phase of its 92-home Sundance neighborhood at Scripps Ranch Villages, San Diego, have been sold. The homes were priced from $265,900 to $295,900. Sundance offers two-story, three- and four-bedroom floor plans ranging from 1,779 to 2,100 square feet priced from $265,900 to $295,900.
Ryland Homes reports 15 homes have been sold from blueprints at its 85-home Arbor Collection at Twin Oaks Valley Ranch in San Marcos. The three- and four-bedroom floor plans range from 1,656 to 2,158 square feet. The second phase of 13 homes was priced from $199,990 to $223,990.
Gateway Elite reports 105 of 180 homes have been sold at its Casablanca development in Mira Mesa. The two-story, three- and four-bedroom floor plans range from 1,410 to 1,901 square feet and are priced from $207,990 to $238,990.
Ryland Homes has sold 42 of 81 homes at its Malaguena development in Murrieta. The three- to five-bedroom floor plans range from 1,783 to 2,646 square feet. Prices range from $161,990 to $205,990.
