Master-planned Otay Ranch in eastern Chula Vista was the top-selling new community in Southern California in 2000, according to The Meyers Group, a real estate information service company.

Homebuilders in Otay Ranch sold 871 homes last year. Since its grand opening in April 1999, more than 1,200 homes have been sold in the 5,300-acre community.

Current homebuilders such as Pacific Coast Communities, Shea Homes, Standard Pacific Homes and William Lyon Homes feature more than 30 furnished models.

Developer RWR Cos. will open a luxury project in February, Oakwood Development plans a neighborhood for March, and later this year, Continental Homes, D.R. Horton and William Lyon will open new projects.


Barratt American will be developing 11 new communities in 2001 from Temecula in Riverside County to the Carmel Valley area of San Diego. Prices will range from the $130,000s to approximately $1.3 million.

In calendar year 2000, the Carlsbad-based subsidiary of the British building giant closed 305 new-home sales valued at approximately $137 million.

Five of the new 2001 neighborhoods are in San Diego County, five in south Riverside County and one in Orange County.

Barratt already has 11 ongoing neighborhoods under way from San Diego to Antelope Valley. Four others last year registered sellouts. Barratt reports only eight homes remain at its Victoria Ranch project in San Marcos. Prices range from the $560,000s to the $650,000s. Victoria Ranch office floor plans from 3,175 to 3,921 square feet with three to six bedrooms.


Ryland Homes reports the eighth and final phase of its Twin Oaks Valley Ranch in San Marcos has been released. To date, the homebuilder has released 292 of the planned 322 homes, and 284 have been sold. Ryland has three neighborhoods currently selling: Highlands, Arbor and Monterey.


Brehm Homes has released four models for sale at its Serenata at Aviara in Carlsbad. Prices range from the mid-$600,000s to the mid-$700,000s. One- and two-story floor plans range from 2,690 to 4,190 square feet with three to five bedrooms.


Woodson Group of Encinitas has acquired 45 lots in Valley Center at 560-acre, master-planned Sherwood Ridge. The homebuilder has retained Larry Case of The Case Group to design the homes. Sherwood Ridge is planned for 145 single-family homes.


Centex Homes on Saturday will release eight homes as phase 1B of its 102-home Summer Walk neighborhood at master-planned Sunbow in Chula Vista. Prices will range from the mid-$200,000s. Three two-story floor plans range from 2,211 to 2,498 square feet with three or four bedrooms.


Fieldstone Communities Inc. on Saturday will unveil three models at its Homestead neighborhood in the 4S Ranch master-planned community west of Rancho Bernardo. The two-story floor plans range from 2,860 to 3,300 square feet with three to six bedrooms. Prices for homes begins in the upper $400,000s.
