Central library hosts free presentations on San Diego Opera’s 2015 season

Free preview presentations about the three productions in San Diego Opera’s 2014-15 (50th anniversary) season will be hosted at the San Diego Central Library.

The Opera Insights Series prepares operagoers with sessions that integrate historical and cultural background, music analysis, plot synopsis, and CD and DVD selections.

The one-hour lectures will be held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium, located at 330 Park Boulevard, in downtown San Diego. Presentations will be delivered by Dr. Ron Shaheen, an adjunct associate professor with a specialization in music history and vocal music at the University of San Diego.

The schedule is: La Bohème (Giacomo Puccini), Tuesday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m.; Don Giovanni (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), Tuesday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m.; and Nixon in China (John Adams), Tuesday, March 10, 7 p.m.
