The California Public Utilities Commission is implementing its Long Term Energy Efficiency Plan, which calls for a 60 to 80 percent statewide energy consumption reduction by 2020. The plan’s goal is to make all residential facilities net-zero by 2020 and all commercial facilities by 2030. To help meeting this goals new energy standards, California Title 24, will take effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

Our recent design solutions for Qualcomm BA Tower and Sharp Healthcare Center were developed to not only exceed industry standards for energy efficiency and sustainability, but also exceed 2014 California T24 energy reduction standards. Both facilities were designed with 100 percent, LED-type dimmable lighting controlled by integrated lighting control systems and energy efficient low-loss power distribution systems. Our design included many energy saving and sustainable features such as Demand Response (DR) capability, photo controls in all day lit spaces, motion and vacancy controls sensors which significantly reduce Light Power Density (LPD) and energy consumption.
In order to optimize indoor air quality and maximize overall building energy efficiency, our design solutions include high efficiency chilled and heating hot water systems with variable primary pumping and variable air flow air handlers with demand control ventilation at room and system level. We specify ultra-low flow plumbing fixtures, solar thermal for domestic hot water and tailor building DDC control sequences to reduce water and energy consumption.
Our design solution for the new Sport Complex for the Army/Navy Academy included LED-type high mast lighting fixtures to significantly reduce energy consumption and drastically cut maintenance expenses on re-lamping and hazmat disposal. Our design for eight-megawatt carport-mounted Photovoltaic system for the Palm Springs Unified School District includes exterior motion-activated dimmable LED lights fixtures in the carports.
