The International Facility Management Association

The award-winning San Diego chapter of the International Facility Management Association is a volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing the performance and professional growth of its members through networking, education and promoting the practice of facilities management. IFMA is also an integral member of the construction community; facility managers are not only responsible for the cost-effective, efficient and successful operation of their buildings, but also support the growth or reduction of space for their building occupants.

IFMA assists in the career development of many facility managers as well as construction professionals in the San Diego community. As a testament to this, David Suter with Consolidated Building Systems Inc. said, "Getting more involved in IFMA over the last few years has been a blessing. I have had the opportunity to work side by side with many talented facility managers and service providers as we continue to grow the chapter.”

Suter is chair of the communications committee and first vice president for IFMA San Diego, and was instrumental in the chapter’s redesign and re-launch of their website; which led to the IFMA Award of Excellence in Communications in 2012, and he was also named 2010 associate member of the year.

Suter has a background in both facilities management as well as construction, and IFMA has played a fundamental role in his career development. He joined his father’s construction management and facilities relocation company, CBSI, as a project manager in 1998 and now serves as vice president working with clients such as SDG&E, The Rock Church, and the San Diego Community College District.

“We work as an extension of a company’s facilities department and assist them in managing projects that they either don’t have the manpower to efficiently handle or the expertise. With our background being in facilities management and hospitality, it is easy for us to fit in with companies and understand the constraints they are under to get projects done,” Suter said.

“IFMA San Diego’s luncheons, round tables and networking events have provided me with the knowledge, tools and support needed for a successful career.”

IFMA San Diego holds a quarterly round table program exclusively for our professional members, as well as monthly luncheons for all members and perspective members.
