With its recent acquisition of the assets of Circle Foods, Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN) has joined an impressive group of Fortune 500 companies at Siempre Viva Business Park, assuming the title of largest employer on Otay Mesa, with just over 1,000 employees.
“We’re delighted to welcome Tyson Foods to Siempre Viva Business Park,” said R. Michael Murphy, president of Murphy Development. “Tyson Foods is one of the world’s largest producers of meat and poultry. It also is a leader in hunger and disaster relief, and charitable giving in their communities.
Under the Tyson Foods banner, Circle Foods continues to operate in the state-of-the-art, 159,600-square-foot production facility that Murphy Development built for Circle Foods in 2009. Numerous structural and utility enhancements to the building design were required, including 8,000 amps of power, a 4-inch water meter, and 32-foot minimum clear height. The facility was designed to meet both FDA and USDA requirements. Since operations began, Circle Foods has been recognized for its outstanding food safety management system.
Circle Foods has been in business for 25 years and is known for creating specialty food products such as Nuevo Grille, Rotiland and TortillaLand handheld Mexican products. Circle Food’s TortillaLand products are found in Vons, Ralphs, Safeway, Walmart, Food4Less and other locations. In a news release, Tyson Foods said it did not plan any significant operational changes.
The Tyson Foods building was the 14th facility built by Murphy Development at Siempre Viva Business Park, which at full build-out will include 2.1 million square feet of corporate-quality industrial space. The final two buildings, totaling 200,000 square feet, have approved plans and permits, and are ready for construction.
Some of Siempre Viva Business Park’s high-profile Fortune 500 tenants include General Dynamics NASSCO, Iron Mountain, Bose Corporation and FedEx. These blue chip corporations have selected Siempre Viva because of its combination of state-of-the-art buildings, strategic location near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, high-quality corporate campus environment, and design guidelines that enhance long-term values.
“Our Fortune 500-dominated tenant roster substantiates SVBP’s corporate appeal and confirms its reputation as San Diego County’s most successful corporate industrial development,” said Kaitlin Murphy, senior vice president at Murphy Development. Murphy Development has planned or completed more than 9 million square feet of industrial buildings in San Diego.
